The Annexe restaurant in Birmingham immerses you in the nostalgia of a vintage-style café whilst dining on some of the best Italian and French cuisine that Birmingham has to offer.
The venue is about more than just tantalising your palate, it’s the whole dinning experience and immersing you into this vintage atmosphere. This is achieved by ‘Show Nights’, which each have an individual theme such as ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Titanic’, and also the décor which includes features that conspicuously blend into the background, creating this nostalgic atmosphere (such as the black and white films being projected onto the wall at the rear of the restaurant).
Yet despite a restaurant having a truly unique and standout décor its main attraction is still the food. The food at Annexe is sublime and truly turns this atmosphere into a first class, luxury-dining experience.
The food complements the surroundings with contemporary dishes that have that European heritage. The scallop dishes (which are changed daily) are delicately light, yet packed full of flavour. The ones we tried, wrapped in thinly cut ham, acted as the perfect introduction to a richer main course such as the rib eye steak. The meat is cooked to perfection, and along with a flavoursome peppercorn sauce and hand cut chips the rib eye steaks create that perfect melt-in-the-mouth sensation. Annexe presents a range of homemade deserts, including a refreshing Peach Melba tart, to sugar coat your dinning experience in this truly unique restaurant.
This dinning experience truly lives up to the luxury standard that you expect from the price tag, especially of that of the wine list. Annex is building up a reputation of one of the best dining experiences in Birmingham and it’s clear to say that both the décor and cuisine act as accolades in supporting this reputation.
